Sediment and soil treatment installations

Envisan has at its disposal geographically well-spread  treatment centres that are also licensed for the temporary storage of non-contaminated soil. This storage facility also acts as soil depot for civil engineering or other works.

Furthermore, Envisan has the necessary permits and specialised plants to apply treatment techniques and treat several contaminated soil types. These pollutions may vary from conventional petroleum hydrocarbons to heavy metals and other environment-alien substances such as cyanide and polychlorobiphenyl (PCB).

Some of our plants are mobile allowing for on-site treatment.

Hulsdonk, Ghent (Belgium)

Envisan is both owner and operator of this centre for soil and sediment treatment situated in the heart of the Port of Ghent.
Soils and sediments polluted with all kinds of contaminants (mineral oil, heavy metals, PAH's, chlorinated compounds, etc.) can be treated here using a wide range of techniques:

  • Natural and mechanical dewatering of (polluted) sediments
  • Biological treatment
  • Physiochemical treatment
  • Thermal treatment
  • Immobilisation

Top Brussels (Belgium)

This temporary storage site for soil and non-hazardous waste is situated in the port of Brussels.
Soil, ballast and other inert waste substances are stored, sieved and treated here. In addition, dredged sludge can be stored and dried here. The location has a capacity of 35,000 tonnes per year.

Sol & Val, Saint-Ghislain (Belgium)

Soil treatment centre near Mons where polluted soil can be treated using several techniques.

Techniques that can be applied are:

  • Biological treatment of soil polluted with hydrocarbons
  • Separation of soil based on physical properties
  • Soil stabilisation
  • Valorisation of treated soil

The centre has a capacity of 80,000 tonnes per year.

Pitesti (Romania)

Envisan designed and operates this treatment centre for oil-contaminated soil, sludge and polluted process water. The centre is composed of four parts: storage area, pre-treatment, thermal treatment by way of a fluidized bed plant and waste water treatment plant.
The state-of-the-art centre was originally developed as part of a contract with Petrom, a Romanian oil manufacturer for which Envisan had to remediate three large oil sludge lagoons. Within the scope of this contract, we treated in all ca. 200,000 m³ of oil residues.

In 2014, the plant was converted so that, next to the treatment of all kinds of organically contaminated waste substances, it can also act as biomass incinerator for the production of green electricity.

Sedival, Moen (Belgium)

Sludge treatment centre situated at the Bossuit-Kortrijk canal. Types of contaminants that can be treated here are heavy metals, mineral oil, PAH's and organic substances. Every year, about 50,000 m³ is treated here.
